The Power of the Gospel

Most of us as believers realize that Jesus has commanded us to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel”. We have heard it taught that this not only means in foreign countries but we are to preach it within our homes, within our spheres of influence, at work and at play. We also know that Paul encouraged us not to be ashamed of the gospel….but do we know exactly what this Gospel is that we are to be preaching?? How can we preach it if we do not know? What we do know is told to us within the scriptures themselves…the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation.
The Gospel is the reality of redemption through Jesus Christ. Reality. The one real thing. According to Oswald Chambers, “Reality is not human goodness nor holiness, nor heaven nor hell….the need to perceive this is the most vital need of the Christian worker today.” As we travel and minister, William and I are quickly overwhelmed with all of the great things that COULD be taught. Marriages need mended, parents need hope, and personal holiness is sadly missing from the church, not to mention the surrounding society. Yet all of these can be changed by the same Truth- A revelation of God’s gospel and what it really came to effect. As Chambers goes on to say, “Personal holiness is an effect, not a cause, and if we place our faith in human goodness, in the effect of redemption, we shall go under when the test comes.”

As we travel around strengthening the body of Christ, we realize that our level of personal holiness will not change lives. We realize that human effort is vain without God’s power backing us up. We need Gospel Power!

When we think of the Bible school now underway in Guatemala, we want to do more than throw out a few life rings to cling to as the storms of life toss them around in a sea of poverty and perversion. We want to bring a boat, a redemption ship that comes and pulls them up out of where they are….not based upon their own ability to swim. This is the reason we chose to open up the school year with the One Thing that has power to save, the One thing that offers complete redemption, the One thing that will produce the effects of holiness as they grow: The Gospel.
The Gospel centers around four points of power: The virgin birth of Jesus Christ, the miracle-producing power of His life on earth, his willing death and supernatural resurrection. This message, when believed upon, will cause more personal holiness than a self-help book could ever think to accomplish. For there is power innate within the message itself.

We are taking this same power with us to Tanzania, Africa in just four days! Please be praying for our time and travel. Our primary focus will be to train pastors and leaders so they can return to their regions and churches and be more equipped to disciple those around them. On a trip like this we pray that God will keep us full of energy, that we will know the exact messages that need to be taught at this time and that our days will be filled with opportunities to minster so that we can make the most of our time there. We will be working with our dear friend Pastor Andrew so please par strength and wisdom for him as he coordinates all of this!
